If you're comfortable (& knowledgable) enough it is a simple matter to remove the halogen lamp fittings & replace them with standard household bulb fittings. Once that's done you can use Compact Fluorescant Lights (CFL). These can be easily found in daylight balanced versions & they're cool (to the touch). Think DIY Spiderlites!
