Anyone know of good tutorials for GIMP?
#1

I've just setup GIMP and find it more difficult to learn than the photoshop programs I'm used to. Would like to give it a good chance here, but find myself thinking about switching back to photoshop and getting something better than Elements since it only allows for photo editing and I need to be able to design logo with and without my photos. Suggestions and links appreciated. Thanks!

I have not tried any of these, and use your own discretion re the sites themselves. i.e run them through Anti Virus first. They are probably all ok but it's your pc not mine. Wink

Type 'Gimp tutorials' into google and see what comes up.

I thought photoshop elements could design artwork. My original elements (version 0) could. Type 'new' to get a fresh blank sheet, and paint or draw on to it. Save as a jpeg or gif if animated.
Of course the newer versions may not support what the original did. Undecided

By the way, if you're using GIMP on a Mac, they've now made it a native app instead of having to use X11 libraries for compatibility. I downloaded it and tried it out today and it works well!

I heard a long while ago that Gimp was the next best thing to PS (and free). I would not recommend anything unless I had used it myself though. I only recommend the recommendation. Big Grin

There are a ton of tutorials on U Tube, they are linked together so you can go from one to the other. To many for me to post here.

I also belong to the Ugly Hedgehog, a free daily newsletter, (http://www.uglyhedgehog.com). They have a search facility, just type in GIMP and all the posts about GIMP come up. There are a series of tutorials there by Shakey and his Grandson, I thing about 29 at present which you may find useful. There are also links there that may provide you with more information. At present I have not used GIMP as I am trying to get to grips with Aperture but may move on in due course as I understand that GIMP is equal(?) to Photoshop.

Happy hunting.

I don't understand your statement about Gimp being more difficult to learn than than Photoshop. Gimp is based on Photoshop in fact they work identically. your statement about not being able to design logos in Elements is way incorrect. If you would take the time to search using Google you would find tutorials for both Gimp and Elements that would explain and show you anything you want to try to learn. Honestly sounds like your looking for an easy way to make your Logos. I've tried all three and currently count Elements as one of the most valuable programs I use.
