"Mourning Women Sarcophagus"

"The Sarcophagus of Mourning Women" stands in the Hall of Sidonian Sarcophagi in the Istanbul Museum of Archaeology. According to the Mendel Catalogue, it is Ionian in style, sculpted ca. 350 BC by a Sidonian who was influenced by Attic art. The artist, once thought to be of Lycian origin, was probably from an Aegean island or coastal town, as the sarcophagus is different from Lycian works in composition and spirit.

Anatolia as an open air museum, one of the archeological sites is the Commegene Kingdom at Mt. Nemrut (approx.2555 m) in southeastern Turkey. One of the most spectacular places in my country especially at sunset and sunrise. In 62 BC, during the king Antiochos-I time, the famous sanctuary was built by him for himself as a funerary monument. They are with a height of 50 m and 150 m diameter. There are colossal heads of Apollo, Zeus
and yes, the king Antiochos-I too.

One day I wish to take my own photos there, and to watch the sunset and sunrise...
