Hamburg Harbour
#1

We've been to Hamburg this morning! This is something else than the fisherman's port in Travemuende. Smile

Tow-Boat

They are the workhorses of the sea. Not elegant, but powerful. Irma has more details of this boat... Smile

BTW this one just went through raw file treatment. Nothing was done in PS. Here is the original size, if you're interested.

I have yet to learn how to use my new gear. I set the aperture to f/8 and more or less left it at this the whole morning. With my old zoom lens, the DOF with f/8 was rather shallow compared with the new one. As a result, I have no blurred backgrounds. Oh well, next time.

Thanks Paul! The lens is a Sigma 24-135mm 2.8-4.5. And yes, it's really nice to share this hobby. Although we got a bit in each other's way today. The sightseeing boat we rode on was a bit crowded, so we had to take turns taking pictures. Smile I don't even want to imagine how it would be if Irma didn't take pictures. We'd be divorced by now, I think.

Container Ship

I know the picture is not very good, technically. I post it anyway because I was so impressed by the sheer size of the freighter. It's massive!

You zooming the pants of Guerito or what ? Tongue you photos looks like a 300mm zoom or more when i compare them to Gueritos.

Container Terminal

The tourist guide said this crane cost 8 million Euro, is fully computer controlled and the whole area is manned by 2 (!) people.

Paul: Better not mess with Irma, she's got a 432mm zoom lens! Big Grin This lens of hers is really great, it's a Leica and built into her Panasonic FZ-20.

The red thing at the rear of the boat is the paddle Irma, there are 2 types of river steamer, the rear paddled like you pictured and side paddle , that have a paddle on each side about half-way along.

Great shots guys Smile

Oh boy! I looked through these a dozen times before posting. Awesome stuff. Right up my ally. Big Grin Craig is right Irma. Those are the paddles on what people would describe those boats as being a paddle wheeler. I would almost think you were out here taking photos along the Fraser River which is quite busy with Tug Boats and Freighters. My brother in-law is a Tug Boat Captain. He's been on the tugs for 30 years. They sure are work horses.
Great series of images you two. Smile

Thanks G. You are too kind. Smile The seagull landing is the best gull shot I believe I've ever seen. I don't know how I missed it the 7th or 8th time around. You guys did very well. I wish I were there with you. Smile Maybe one day.
