Christmas 2013
#1

I have never been a fan of HDR images but I've heard and read so much about them I felt I should try it out for myself.
My sisters room at christmas seemed ideal. The only lighting was the flashing lights on the tree and over the fireplace. There was a little light left in the day coming through a large window behind the camera, but very little.
I intentional left a little clutter to make it seem lived in and used a small aperture to get the starbursts on the fairy lights.
I still remain unconvinced about HDR but will have a few more attempts to satisfy my curiosity I think.
I welcome your thoughts.

Lots of HDR stuff is over cooked, IMO, but this one is great. Like the use of the 15mm? lens as well. What software did you use to process the image?

I'm not a fan of either HDR or twisted perspectives, but in this photo everything work. Maybe it's because I'm kind of tired of all happy, bright and traditional Christmas photos, but I really love this almost dark and somehow twisted Christmas experience.

Hi Dean
I'm pleased that you like the image, thank you.
It is a 15mm lens and the processing was done with Photoshop 6. Fantastic software and really easy to use the HDR tool.

Hi Korry
Love your comments! I've looked at this image differently after reading what you said. The darkness was unintentional but in hindsight I think it's why I was struck by the final image. Thank you.

Hi Simon,

Well, I have so far been singularly unimpressed with the HDR stuff I've seen. THIS image is what it's all about, this is what HDR was intended to be. Very well done Simon, an intelligent and knowledgeable use of all the facilities at your disposal. Be proud of your image, everyone else is.

Regards.

Phil.

Did you apply any lens correction?

If not, maybe try it?

Hi Wall-E
No I didn't try it. I kind of liked the way the shot tumbles, but it may well be improved by correction. I will definitely give it a go. Thanks.
