EXIF findings
#1

I am relatively new to photography and did not know anything about EXIF's until I joined this site a few weeks ago.
So I thought I'd better start a new thread so as not to confuse any other threads.
I had a problem with my Software stripping out the EXIFs so I did a short study.
I have two Paint Shop Pro programs that I use to crop or edit my images
One being PSP7 and the other Corels psp x4.
In psp7, which is a lot easier to use, all EXIF disappears once edited and saved.
In X4 only parts of the EXIF gets deleted, but retains the important bits.
This explains why some of my EXIF shows and some don't, depending on which program I used to upload.
After browsing through Corels site, I found this to be a bug that they have overlooked. PSP does not keep all the data intact once it has been edited and saved.
I have been informed to use a free downloadable program called "Exif Pilot"

Continued .......
In EXIF Pilot the image needs to be opened and the data exported as a CSV
Then the edited image opened in PSP and the CSV information imported back.
This seems a long winded process to me.
Anyone with any ideas would be appreciated

It's not essential that you retain this, just post as you have done if you desire to. You should really work on a copy, and retain the original, just in case. EXIF, enables you, at any time, to see all pertinent settings that were used to take the pic, then if asked, what settings, they are available. Pre digital, you had to remember them, or, make notes. Thank you ED for understanding.
I now keep all originals in one folder and edited ones in another.
However, I have lost a lot of information on previous images by cropping and saving due to fact of my ignorance.
Once again ........Thanks

Johnny, welcome to the club, it's by no means exclusive!! I "Destroyed" virtually all my pics for about 2 years, cropping and editing, then saving, overwriting the originals. It was all foreign to me, died in the wool Black and white trained. I was shown this eventually by a 20 year old genius on Photoshop, he put me on the straight and narrow, and, to me, long path!! Cheers. Ed.
