Good attempt, Pete. The face is pretty well lit, and the photo is pretty flattering.

His face looks a little washed out by the flash to me. But that might just be my preference for natural light coming through (not to mention that I'm an inexperienced flash user)! I really like the pose and his facial expression, he seems quite relaxed. I love the tones of your post processing too.

I agree with you all, I think it needs to be darker, perhaps with a little more contrast. It did look better on my big CRT monitor at home than on this 17in LCD at work.
