#1 and 2 are great moments, but I have to admit that it's #3 thtat really blows me away. I can't get a shot that close and that sharp when the birds are sitting on the ground!

Just what I was thinking Matthew.
Almost like digiscoping. Lumix LX5. Canon 350 D.+ 18-55 Kit lens + Tamron 70-300 macro. + Canon 50mm f1.8 + Manfrotto tripod, in bag.

Progressively excellent: better than if I'd got a stuffed one and put my camera on a tripod 2 feet in front of one.
What lens? Is the touch of a halo due to contrast masking? All my stuff is here: www.doverow.com (Just click on the TOP RIGHT buttons to take you to my Image Galleries or Music Rooms!) My band TRASHVILLE, in which I'm lead guitarist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6mU6qaNx08

Thanx for the responses, Well, yes. Photographing these birds is hard as it is standing, let alone in flight, and try to get a good exposure on their white feather.
All shot with my 30D and EF 100-400 iS Cheers We don't make mistakes, We make discoveries!

This is what I admire the most in your pictures. The detail in the white feathers.
It seems that you also had good light too. Thanks for sharing John.... A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art. Paul Cezanne
