Talking with Zig about HDR reminded me of an image I had archived. It was a shot grabbed from the open window of a moving vehicle (the camper) as we were going round a roundabout. This particular castle always looks wonderful from the main road but it's a very busy, often congested road so the only way to get a shot is from the passenger seat ..... and you just have to hope there are no lorries or buses blocking the view.

The shot was in colour, not particularly good colour either as there was a storm, brewing up overhead.

I converted the image to B/W using the Opticverve virtual photographer and it's also been tone-mapped and had various other tweaks. Sorry I can't remember all the various tweaks and layers as I did it a few months ago ...... but I can tell you it was Zig's fantastic b/w landscapes that inspired me to have a go at a considered b/w conversion.

It's a shot of Arundel Castle on the south coast of England.

Thanks for the inspiration, Zig. Big Grin

Gee thanks, Maestro. Ya mekkin iz blush, hinny. Big Grin

Another trick I used, having picked up the tip from a fine artist and photography lecturer, on another board. He uses usm in small area of his b/w images. he selects small areas, copy/pastes to new layers and uses "small touches of subtle usm'' to emphasis what he called "glints of light here and there". So I did that on small patches of the trees in various places.

As I said - it's a heavily processed image .......... but it pleases me printed at A4 and stuck on the wall. Smile
