Mars Rover explains 2MP camera choice
#1

If you've been following the Mars Rover project on the news and seeing all the cool footage, you'll no doubt be wondering whey they use such low resolution cameras (2 megapixel) when we've probably got smartphones in our pocket that shoot higher res than that.

Well the project manager does some explaining, citing mainly the transmission bandwidth limitations and also the fact that they decided on the camera platform back in 2004.

I noticed the 2mp, when the colour pic was released today. But my lenses won't reach mars anyway.

Looks like they can stitch together 2MP shots to make large panoramas too...
