More Badlands Ontario
#1

One Last Badlands photo. As allways, critical comments are very welcome. All comments are very welcome, but issues with regards to post-processing are particularly important to me right now. Thanks Pavel[Image: Badlands-w-sky-July-2008-_DSC5589-04-July-08.jpg]

Your photos are getting better and better. I think this one is suitable for framing. Regards.....DT

Thanks Enviroguy, aka DT aka Dennis. I will hold out a little longer - I think I still have a long way to go. However I appreciate your sentimnets a great deal. However, I am not that happy with this photo - I think the composition is not the best and the photo does not have the feel that I am looking for, although I have no idea how to achieve it, although I have seen it in some photos. What I am looking for is a postprocessing effect. It has to do with sharpness retained, but at the same time a feel of silky smooth transitions. I thought I will achieve that with "soft lighting", but that does not seem to be it, or I do not know how to use it properly. In terms of composition, I think it is too busy and does not have this strong direct impact (whatever I may mean with these words). Irma commented on similar photo and referred to the leading lines to the significant objects. That is one thing missing here, although some other strong compositional elements would have satisfied me as well. Let us see what ohter feedback I get and tells me how to achieve what I want.

Thanks Dennis for your encouraging words.

Critique is usually what is wrong, not how to make it right.
I am not particularly good at critique so I leave it to ones who are. I just either like or dislike a photo.

So for me the photo is a good scenic shot, but no real subject. :|
Maybe it needs someone in it.

Thank you NT, I agree that the photo is busy and it lacks objects that would draw attention. There were not too many strong objects in the area, except for small bolders and small trees. I have some photos with my patient wife in it providing a charming focus, but she does not wish to have her photos posted. I will go back to the area and I will try to do better. Your comments echo Irma's comment on a similar photo, so I probably should not have posted this one, since I already had an answer. Thanks for your comments. Pavel

Nice. Maybe get close up to some foreground with a wide-angle lens for a bit of depth..?

Pavel, this is only my opinion, not neccessarily everyones. Smile
The landscape itself I quite like. It reminds me in a way of an elephants skin, but much nicer colours.
Parts of Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) have a similar lumpy rock.

Thank you Zig, It is a very good advice. In fact, that is my excuse for ordering Tokina 11-16, yet here I di not use fully the 18mm that I do have. Thanks for commenting. Pavel
