More Sports Shooting this Weekend!
#1

That's right all you lucky sand gropers here in Perth... We're OVERLOADED with shooting opportunities this weekend! And there's links at the bottom for Aussies in other states who want to find out what's on in their neck of the woods.

I just found out that the National Motorkhana Championships are on at AHG in Forrestfield this weekend on both Sat and Sun.
While not the highest-budget, fastest or most spectacular type of motorsport, it would still be a lot of fun with a lot of colourful cars (mostly small cars like minis).. and is probably one of the more accessible motorsports both to photograph and get involved in. I have some mates who are into it and I wouldn't mind doing a bit myself.

I'm not sure if I'll go or not as I have a few other things to do this weekend too, but I'd like to go. Smile

There's also some top-level canoeing on in Perth this weekend if that's your thing.. "the first regatta of the season this Saturday morning at Hines Reserve, Bayswater" and "Sunday's Bay to Beach race ... About 200 paddlers will take part in the annual 17km Bay to Beach Race from Mosman Bay to Leighton Beach. Baker will be going head to head with Robinson who is the greatest surf ski paddler of all time."

Sorry ST I don't know of anything happening in Melbourne.. but its the sport capital of Aus.. surely there are a gazillion things going on this weekend?!?!?
It might be worth having a look around http://www.vis.org.au/ if you are interested in attending some local olympic sports that normally wouldn't get widely publicized.

And for everyone in Australia.. Here is a link to the "National Sports Directory" - a searchable database of sporting organisations run by the Australian Sports Commission.

The best way to use it might be to pick your favourite sport, find the National or State Sporting Organisation (NSO or SSO) for that sport and hopefully they'll have a website with a calender of events. Or else select "Institutes of Sport" from the drop-down and then pick your state/area... many of the state institutes and academies should have calenders of events for the olympic sports they are involved in.

hmm.. actually here's a link with a list of all the National Sporting Organisations recognised by the Sports Commission.. this might be your best bet if you are interested in a specific sport.
