Nikon D600 Rumours
New rumours floating around that Nikon are working on a budget full frame camera - the D600 - the latest evidence being a camera strap with D600 emblazoned on it.
If rumours are true, it will be an "entry level" full frame camera, with a 24 megapixel sensor and a $1500 price point. Wow, that will really give Canon a run for their money. http://www.petapixel.com/2012/04/26/niko...rap-photo/ Minigizmo - Gadget News and Reviews BookHoot - Ebook News |

RE: Nikon D600 Rumours
Exciting days. Budget full frame would be a big deal when competing with the new crop of mirrorless cameras.

I thought the mirrorless cameras were all about compactness and portability. Full frame = larger sensor = larger lenses. I would have thought it would compete more with the "prosumer" DSLRs like the Canon 7D and even the 60D. Minigizmo - Gadget News and Reviews BookHoot - Ebook News |

Yes, but the Achilles Heel of m43 and its brethren has always been the small sensor size and the "serious" photographer knows that while m43 might be a great compactness tradeoff against an APS-C sensor DSLR, it can't match full frame. Up until now, however, FF has been largely a wishful thinking purchase, and a valid option for the wealthy only. If you can't afford FF, then m43 looks like a pretty good option. Budget priced FF changes that equation for the serious photographer. If you can't join 'em, beat 'em. |

Although my wife is getting OM-D E-M5 (the guy who came up with the name deserves to be fired), it is really overpriced for what it is. Compare it to entry level DSLRs which are costlier to manufacture and cost about half. In a few years, m4/3 are bound to drop in price a lot. I suspect that the cost of manufacturing and selling price have nothing to do with each other. |

I'm sure it doesn't cost much more to produce than a regular DSLR / compact , but they've designed it as a "premium" camera and can therefore justify the "premium" price tag.
