On the Rio Dulce
#1

Taken on a trip down river, on the Rio Dulce, in Guatemala. Critiques are welcome.

Hello again Gary, again this photo is very exotic for me, giving me a glimpse of a life which I have never seen. Again, I wish I was there. I like the lillies(?) in the foreground, serving as an introduction to the main focus of the photo in central midground. I would have liked to have seen the lillies in focus. Human eye expects the foregorund to be in focus and is more forgiving when more distant objects are less sharp. In this photo, your main objects are in focus, but the foreground looks soft. The lillies also tend to blend in with the leaves on water surface. I also wonder whether taking the photo from the right would result in a photo which would feel somewhat less static.

I would consider cropping about 1/2 the lillies from the foreground and about the same amount from top of the image. It would bring the people in the photo closer to the foreground, eliminate the softest lillies and highlight what looks like a nice reflection in water. I would also post larger images. I use 1800 pixels for the longest side. At your current size, the photo is hard to evaluate, as it is too small to see details. Pavel

Thanks Pavel. Brilliant idea! Simple, but I never thought of it. Cropping also gets rid of the TV antenna.
