Portable Image Tank
#1

I got meself a new toy. Smile

Well actually it's not really a toy but a necessity. I'm sick and tired of running out of memory while shooting, and now I have the solution: The DIP Wiesel X2. It's made in Austria, I believe. Sorry I couldn't find any site in English for the device.

Anyway I think it's great, it has an 80GB disk and runs on rechargable batteries. They claim it sucks images from the CF card to the disk with 8MB/sec, which would be 250 seconds or a bit more than 4 minutes to copy my 2GB card. Tongue

This will come in handy also when we go to Bavaria for Christmas - no need to borrow the laptop from the company anymore.

Technical details:

Dimensions / Weight: 13cm x 8cm x 3cm / 500g
Power Supply: 7,0V , 1.000mA DC
AC Adapter: In: 100-240V AC Out: 7V DC
NiHM AA batteries: Works up to 1.5h
Charging time / Cycles: 4 - 6h / ca. 500
Media: CF I, CF II, Hitachi Microdrive, (MMC, SD, Sony, SonyPro, XD)
Interface: USB 2.0 ( up to 480 Mbit/s)
Copy Speed: CF>HD 8MB/s
Supported OS: Windows ME / 2000 / XP , MacOS 9.x , MacOS X, Linux

It comes with a PELI case (they say it's waterproof), 4 NiHM rechargeable batteries, builtin battery charger, power cord and USB cable.

Price is around €300,- depending on where you buy it.

Update: It seem that HERE is the origin of the device. The Austrian company seems to just have relabeled it...

There are several such devices out I think.

Nikon D3100 with Tokina 28-70mm f3.5, (I like to use a Vivitar .43x aux on the 28-70mm Tokina), Nikkor 10.5 mm fisheye, Quanteray 70-300mm f4.5, ProOptic 500 mm f6.3 mirror lens. http://donschaefferphoto.blogspot.com/

Oh yes there are quite a lot of these... It's been difficutl to make a decision. I went for speed as the main criterion, because I don't want to wait half an hour for the card to copy.
