Power Lines

Philip's comments in the other thread (thanks MrB, by the way) made me consider why I like the pylons image the best out of those I posted in that thread. On reflection, I think what it is, whenever I'm out walking in the countryside the power lines seem to be everywhere, and for a while I tried to frame photos to avoid them. Then I figured I'd embrace them on account of they are as much a part of the countryside these days as everything else in a landscape. So whenever I get the chance I snap a power line.

Plus there's a few songs I like where folks follow the power lines...

I agree that power lines can actually become an integral part of the overall character of an image. But they can also spoil some otherwise fabulous shots rather big time. The above B/W shot of the pylons looks absolutely wonderful because they are the sole theme of the image. Power lines become a nuisance when they obscure an intended high-lite in the distance.

Great series Derek, love the third one, the depth, mist and light all combine to make a real attention grabber for me.
