Pro Photographer vs Junk Compact?

Great youtube video of pro photographer Jack Arras being issued a challenge - take some street portraits with just a junky old Kodak digital camera. And on top of that, it doesn't even work properly with a external slave flash in bright conditions (the camera can't be set to force flash) so in more than one situation he had to drag people into darker alleys to force the onboard flash to fire.

I'll pass this on to my students. It really does prove the point that it isn't what you're shooting with but a grasp of composition and lighting that makes the shot.

And that the camera is merely a tool. A tangible tool of many other intangible tools. Dealing with people is way more valuable in portraiture, for example, than the camera you got.
