Yes it was a macro lens, a Tokina AT-X Macro 90mm, with a distance piece (sorry don't know the proper term) between the camera and the lens.

interesting pictures, but looks very soft and out of focus.

btw, it's called an extension tube. comes in various lenghts for different magnifications.

It's amazing what old junk can do.
