Hi, I am using a Sony a300 ( second hand ) I enjoy using the camera however I regularly have dark shadow areas at top left of image am I doing something wrong ie settings etc or is this a camera problem would be grateful for any help

Possibly Lens hoot incorrectly fitted. Post an image showing it please. Ed.

Just had a thought. Upper left? Not exactly the same from shot to shot?
I'll bet your finger is getting in the way because of the way you're holding the camera body.

Thanks for that,I thought maybe a finger but get same result with 300 telephoto lens fitted, I though maybe problem with sensor, will post photos of camera after
colin.

If you get to see it if different lens is used I think it s more of the sensor. Have it check to its respective customer service of sony.

Can you see this in viewfinder, or, live view. A pic would perhaps help. Ed.

Many possibilities -
Lens Hood
Finger or hand in the way
Lens Cap not correct
Some modes also offer deliberate rounded black corners
