Test of Vivenza - what do you think
I downloaded free trial of Vivenza and tried to use it. I would appreciate what you think of colour contrast and bleeds from different parts of the photo into another parts. Basically, I processed separatelly the sky, the distant hills and the sunny foreground. Each part took several duplicated control points. I cleaned up the spills by the brush tool. Viveza does seem to reduce spill of settings between heterogeneous zones, but it is not complete. However I felt that the partial separation meant that there is less artefactual spills between zones that I was able to achieve with layers and brush alone. I really need to learn other select tools. Here goes. Feedback very wellcome. Pavel

Thanks Don,
I find it easier to use than Photoshop and it seems to recognize different parts of the photo and to apply the effects only to selected parts. Well not quite. The effects spill on neighbouring parts, but less so than if the changes were applied globaly. That makes it easier to brush the effects off on the adjustment layer. The process is fairly straightforward, almost Lightroom-like. I was surprised how effectively it manages haze. Dfine on the next photo also works well locally, although there I am not sure that the benefits exceed what you can do fairly easily with layers on Photoshop.
Nik software has simple and consistent interface, which i liked. I am not sure to what rxtent the benefits exceed what you can do in photoshop as you develop some skills. The allow a 15 day demo. Pavel

Good point. Sorry NT. Should I repost or is there a way of moving the thread over?

I would not worry too much regarding moving the thread. I must be in one of my Victor Meldrew moods.

Hi Pavel,

I like the results you got. I can't see evidence of any bleedin' "bleeds", as you call 'em. I will have to check out this software.

If you want to learn more about selection tools, check out Russell Brown's PS Tips & Techniques, like this one about the quick selection tool:

Be forewarned that the narration can be pretty annoying. (He thinks he's funny).
