The Bittern
#1

Botaurus stellaris Two of my most pleasing shots. The bittern, although not rare, is certainly not to be seen at many of the reserves in South Yorkshire. The in flight one was a gift. It came from the reed beds flying directly towards the hide only to veer off as it was almost overhead.

Nice shots... I like the camouflage on the Bittern... difficult to see amongst the reeds... you did well to get the shot.

I too hand hold a f2.8 300mm lens... well done to get such a clear flight shot,. Thanks for sharing.

In photography, the smallest thing can be a great subject. The little human detail can become a leitmotiv.

Thank you all for your comments.
Looking forward to seeing some images from lakeland. I originate from the west coast of Cumbria and have a reasonable knowledge of the Lake district, especially Loweswater,Buttermere and Crummock areas. ...... Peter
