Autumn Tooth and Claw
The leaves
don't really die you say
they are just part of the tree.
Yet I can't help a little pathos
as I watch the story of death
stealing the green and shrivelling
the smooth skin.
The leaves are
abandoned by their mother
I think, abandoned as the great
center, the important one
enters the shock of winter,
thinks save myself and
closes all the hatches to its heart.
