these guys usually stay WAAAAY out there, too far for a decent shot even with a 500mm and a converter, and definitely beyond the range of my 400mm. but this little fella came in close, maybe 15-20 yards, and hung around long enough to let me get a few nice shots. even showed off the green on his li'l head... Wink

Nice that one. We had two pairs on the canal a couple of weeks ago, and they took off, and flew towards me. Sadly my panning skills deserted me in the hour of need.

Mine were not Mergansers but Goosander. I knew it was an 'ander' Rolleyes Big Grin

you guys call 'em 'goosanders', we call 'em mergansers... same bird, different accent. Big Grin
