Be prepared to spend 3 to 5 hours on one image. I am talking about beauty and fashion retouching here.
Try not to use heavy blurring and bring back the texture by adding a layer fulled with 50% brightness, blend mode to soflight with a noise filter applied to this layer - change opacity to about 20% or what ever looks best.
Always clone on a new layer. Check on USE ALL LAYERS. Do not clone directly onto your original image.
You should always add noise to any cloning layers too. Group the noise layer to the cloned layer so that it does not add noise to the original image.

Get Katrine Eismann's excellent
PS Restoration and Retouching Techniques book. There's none better, IMO.
In lieu of that, here are some faves:
1. "Local contrast enhancement," aka high-radius sharpening. Run USM at amount 20 - radius 50 - threshold 0.
2. Luminosity kicker: run "match color" and set luminance to 110. Instant brightness adjustment without clipping highlights.
