Big Picture 2010 in Photos
#1

I absolutely love the Big Picture from the Boston Globe - and here is a 3 part series entitled "2010 in Pictures" - basically capturing the most newsworthy pictures of 2010.

Part 1 was out yesterday, Part 2 is out today and the final part will be out tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Jolly good and clean shots of course.
What strikes me is not so much the technical but the actual choice and assemblage of images: these work as U.S.-centric propaganda, selling the idea that the U.S. is some kind of overall and objective moral arbiter and global protector. Shots are chosen to reflect other nations as suffering or isolated, with at best the same idea as the Noble Savage of 300 years ago...whereas shots that include the U.S. in such suffering, show good ol' doughboys as either rescuer or emotionally angst-ridden and temporarily powerless.
This is indeed 2010 in pictures: a rewritten history by an empire that is addicted to seeing itself as victorious.
If it were a more realistic assemblage I might be curious as to why, for example, images of the aftermath of the African Gold Coast disaster, the premeditated killing of Reuters journos and civilians in Afghanistan or the social ruin for the fisherman of the Gulf of Mexico, were not included.
Just my tuppence, you understand.
