What's the best compliment someone has paid you?
#1

As a photographer, what's the best or most meaningful compliment someone has paid you about your work?:

Not the "wow that looks good - you must have a good camera!" that usually leaves me unimpressed.

For me, I took a couple of photos of my neighbour's cat when it was in our garden. My wife blew up a copy for them and they absolutely love it. They hung it in their kitchen where they see it every day, and my wife says they remind me about it every time they see me.

What about you?

I was in am exhibition last year of about 70 working artists working in a variety of mediums. I was showing a small piece that I had printed on multiple layers of glass and mirrors including printing on the reverse of the front sheet so that the piece reflected back on itself. The combination of transparency, reflectivity, and opacity resulted in a pretty amazing illusion of 3D depth.

It went over pretty well - it sold at the highest price I have ever commanded, and I got a commission to reproduce it for another buyer. Late in the evening, one of the guests told me that it was by far the best thing in the show. Considering that I was there with some *very* salable and talented artists, that felt pretty good.

The rare occasion when someone orders a large print for their wall space at home: quite a privilege to realise that something I have done is actually allowed in to someone's personal space and that it augments this space for them.

My Ex-Boss has a cabin that has been in his wife's family for over 80 years, the only thing on the cabin walls that is not 50+ years old is framed print of mine of the lake the cabin sits on, taken during a snowstorm.

I've been paid some very nice compliments here over the years, so instead I'll pick something different. Yesterday my little review blog, which I started on a lark just over three years ago, passed 110,000 visitors. That astonishes me.
