#1 is fascinating, as the hi-contrast mono treatment allows one to see several subliminal suggestions(for me, sort of interplanetary nebula, or microcosmic cell or the track of an atomic particle, or an areoplane at night in WW2...) and allows the viewer the freedom to import their own inner images.
