flip & tuck with a half-gainer
#1

i was out poking around a marshy area along the shore of Lake Washington, and heard a 'plop' from off to one side, in the water. i turned and looked just in time to see a kingfisher emerge from the water with a fish in its bill... then it dropped the fish! i got the camera up just in time to catch the kingfisher's frantic mid-air gymnastics as it flipped over and dove back into the water before the turbulence from its previous take-off had subsided to retrieve its lunch. but apparently the fish made good its escape, and the kingfisher came up empty...

Well caught. They are quite nippy little birds.
