Birds in Flight Test and Some Simplicity!
#1

A few from yesterday evening. My plan was to try and catch some in-flight shots - any bird would do at this stage of my development - something I've never tried before. Couldn't resist taking a few 'peaceful' composition shots, too. All taken on the Nikon D7100. The bird shots were taken handheld with the 70-300. Light was fading so the ISO was ratcheted up to give me a decent shutter speed. AF on the 70-300 was pretty slow in the low light. Decided to put a frame around the last one as the horizontal light lines of the water tended to lead the eye out of the shot.

Nice images. I love my 70-300mm lens.

Ask yourself, "What's most important for the final image?".

Hello again, Bob. Yes, in a similar vein to the "flash" thread I thought it was time to learn a little about taking motion pictures, panning, quick focus, continuous shooting etc etc. All part of starting to take this lark a bit more seriously now my first couple of years are done!

Regarding the light, I've come to realise that most of my pictures lack one thing - decent light. I tend to take pictures in my lunch hour or when out on my bike. This session was a rare dedicated photo session taking late in the evening - and it shows.

Regards
Derek
