Leaves
#1

I kinda like this shot, but I think it's messy. What should I do with it?

A quickie during lunch break: Copy background layer, find all edges and display as overlay. Gives a more 3 dimensional look, IMO. Smile

Another try, with a little more time to spend... Smile

I tried to structure it a little, darker on the bottom and lighter at the top (at least the leaves).

hmmm ST.. This one's a bit of a toughie coz there are so few elements in the photo to work with.

The shapes are interesting, but if you ask me the colour is letting it down a bit. The sky is flat and the leaves aren't a lush kind of colour IMHO. Also the lack of contrast doesn't help bring out the detail in the leaves.

Here's my take. I made a greyscale image using the channel mixer in Corel.. It is made up mainly of red and green, but I actually subtracted the blue channel away to make the sky appear black (and it added a lot of contrast). I then tuned the contrast a bit using a tone curve (and tinted it at the same time), and finally applied an unsharp mask to just sharpen the edges of the leaves a little.
I've been quite heavy-handed on the contrast, but it does bring out the detail in the leaves which is what I was trying to highlight.

Anyway.. just my 2c. Smile
