Publicbible - online bible
#1

Hi all!

Just thought I'd give you all a sneak peek at a project that I've been beavering away at.

http://www.publicbible.com

It's an online bible, and it's still in its infancy, but I've got bible browsing and searching implemented. Three bible versions are supported so far - World English Bible, American Standard Version and ye old King James Version. These were public domain so I thought I'd start with them first.

I know there are probably a lot of bible sites out there, but I wanted to create one that was intuitive to use, with a focus on usability, and free of advertising and unnecessary graphics, fluff and distractions. An online bible that is a joy to use, pure and simple.

I'll be building more functionality in the coming weeks and months (can't say too much - don't want to let the cat out of the bag yet) with a hope of extending that vision.

I'm hoping that you will find it useful as a tool for your personal bible study. Feel free to test drive it, use it and play it with all you want. If you have any thoughts, feedback, suggestions, or comments please send them my way...

Cool Jules.

The listing of the books is nice and simple.

You might poke around http://bible.gospelcom.net/ to see if there are any ideas you can borrow. It's the only other "clean" site I've found, though it's a bit convoluted.

Jules, how you manage to extract more than 24 hours out of one day beats me.
A magnum opus all right, and just the bill: I've one which only has 2 translations but so much graphic/video padding that does nothing of use.
A glib, pie in the sky suggestion for the work it would entail, but I'd love to see an Amplified version alongside too. Great stuff, good on ya truly.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Zig: what did you mean by "I've one"? As in you've created your own online bible too?

Regarding the amplified and other versions - these are not public domain (copyrighted by various bible societies and foundations) but once this project gets mature enough I might try approaching them to ask for permission to use their texts too..

Oh yeah I have Ilumina too... I love the interface, but once the novelty of all the video and stuff wears off, I find the interface very clunky to use.

Pretty cool, but reading the bible a verse at a time is a bit hard ...

Would be good as a study tool though...

Julian - that is one b-i-g project and I wish the project well. I am sure it will be well used.
