telephoto foray
#1

Went on the prowl with the 70-200, as it turned up yesterday; here are a couple of the better ones.
The Image Stabilisation is a great help: I can see this lens as being able to grab more opportunities.
These 2 shots were both taken hand-held at 1/200 sec at f11 with the long end. Normally I'd expect to use a tripod just in case, as I'd have been happier with 1/320...but being by a roadside I wouldn't have been able to safely get the tripod up anyway.
(For those interested, I've posted another couple of thoughts and shots in the Lens section.)

Wow these are great. I think the first one is an absoulte classic.

Nikon D3100 with Tokina 28-70mm f3.5, (I like to use a Vivitar .43x aux on the 28-70mm Tokina), Nikkor 10.5 mm fisheye, Quanteray 70-300mm f4.5, ProOptic 500 mm f6.3 mirror lens. http://donschaefferphoto.blogspot.com/

Hi Zig,

I saw your post was three times.... So I wanted to repair it, and somehow all was gone... :o

I am so sorry... Sad

Could you try again, and see if it works now?

Both are really nice examples of the isolation and extraction that a good medium telephoto can do, and neither exhibits the extreme "telesquish" that the ultra-long lenses are prone to. The first one in particular is a really good showcase for being able to keep enough depth of field to create a rich landscape.
