Hey cool! Interesting eventhough I don't play violin, but I've always wanted to build my own guitar...
They sell violin-kits at stewmac.com.... God has placed me on earth to accomplish certain things. Right now, I am so far behind that I will never die.

Years ago my hubby and I built a lap dulcimer together from one of the stewmac kits when we were engaged. It was quite the experience. I'll never forget the thing hanging from a light fixture in my dining room while the finish was drying.
Building a violin would be fun... But, I should probably learn to play the lap dulcimer first.

How long did it take you and your husband from start to finish to complete the lap dulcimer, Moreta?

Thanks ST. Yes, I saw those - but I'm looking to build a solid-body electric (or bass) before I progress on to the acoustic kits...

axeman, I think it was a total of 3 weeks, but we did little tiny bits at a time. The only real time consuming portions were waiting for the hide glue to set up and for each layer of finish to dry.
