I was trying to do something with an orange rose as well but it just will not do what I want.

Wow Pete!
That first pic is just fabulous! I see what you mean about the orange rose in the 2nd pic though. Perhaps the flash was a bit too harsh? It looks a little bit like a deer in the headlights and seems to have lost some of its subtlety. I would have tried less flash and a longer shutter speed to try to bring out more of the natural light in the scene and just balance it with the flash. But the first one is stunning. I am thinking that I may not have ven used the flash on these. Oh well gives me an excuse to keep trying.

I am trying to get one of the 18-55mm DA Pentax lenses that come in the US kit because that one does rear focusing, it looks to be a better lens at a reasonable price..
