Normally they just swim and dive under the water and come up 10 yards or so, from where they went under. The bad hair do and kissing is mating rituals in spring. ( Greater crested grebe). See them a lot on the Norfolk(uk) Broads, the pregnant lump on the lower right hand side of the U.K.
