    Shuttertalk Forums FAQ

    Greetings, Shuttertalkers!

This has been long overdue, so here's some Frequently Asked Questions section for the forums...

    1) Forum Rules. We pride ourselves on being the friendliest photography forums on the net.  Help us foster this environment through abiding by these rules:

       * Be nice, friendly and polite to one another.
       * Recognise and respect that others may not always hold the same view as you.
       * Any thoughts are valid - feel free to share and post anything.
       * No question is too dumb; we're all here to learn.
       * No spam, commercial advertising, promotion for other sites etc. for self interest
       * Try to post in the correct forums. Non-photography related discussion is more than welcome in the "General" forums
       * Please refrain from swearing, using explicit language and posting "questionable" photos. If unsure, link to the photo and put a clear warning.
       * Most of all, have fun!

    2) Introductions. We love to get to know everyone, so feel free to introduce yourself by posting a new thread in the "Introduce Yourself! forum.  Tell us about yourself, your craft, your gear and your passions and we'll tell you about ours!

    3) Ranks.  The more posts you have, the higher the ranking that appears next to your name!

    0   posts - Shuttertalk Introvert
    15 posts - Shuttertalk Babbler
30 posts - Shuttertalk Smooth Talker
    60 posts - Shuttertalk Socialite
    90 posts - Shuttertalk Chatterbox
    120 posts - Shuttertalk Loudmouth
    150 posts - Shuttertalk Ambassador

    4) Posting images. Shuttertalk is all about photos and photography, and you can share them in your posts.  Here's how:

        1.  As a forum member, you can easily upload images (250KB max) by pressing the "img upload" button while posting.  Just make sure to resize your photos to a reasonable size (e.g. 640x480) so that it doesn't take too long for other people to download and view.

        2. Locate the file to upload from your computer by pressing the "Browse" button, and then "Upload File" when ready.

        3.  When the file has been uploaded to our server, click on "Paste code into message" to insert the image into your post.

    5) Linking to images on the web  Alternatively, if your image is already on the web somewhere (e.g. www.photobucket.com), you can link directly to that.  Note that it is preferable to upload to our site, as over time, some photo hosts may go out of business and disappear.

        1.  Get the full URL to your photo (including the http:// bit).  e.g. http://img3.photobucket.com/albums/v13/ … r/1241.jpg

        2.  Note Pbase users -- you need to get the link to the actual image, not the page which displays the image.  Do this by right clicking on the actual photo you want displayed, and then selecting "copy image location"

If it looks like this, then it's ok (note the .jpg extension at the end):

    Code:

    http://mishappa.image.pbase.com/u6/demouser/large/1001252.DSCN1684.jpg

This is incorrect, as it links to the html page:

    Code:

    http://www.pbase.com/demouser/image/1001252

    3.  When posting, click on the "Img" button and enter the URL.  Or you can create your own BBcode like so:

    Code:

    [img]http://img3.photobucket.com/albums/v13/demouser/1241.jpg[/img]

    6) BBCode and smilies.  If you're wondering how some people's posts have formatting, and how to do the same with yours, it's done via BBCode.  These are special tags that you can apply to your text to make them bold, underlined, and how to format URLs, etc.

It's easy!  See the guide here: http://www.shuttertalk.com/forums/help.php

That's it for now... I'll post more when I think of more.  big_smile

    Enjoy!

Really?  sad   Can you post the URL of the pic that you're trying to link?  And also the code that you're typing in?

    Re: Shuttertalk Forums FAQ

It's OK how it is, I think. The ratings are only an indication of whether you are a forum regular or not - primarily for the benefit of newbies to the forum - I don't think they should be a prize in their own right - quality of posts is more important than quantity.
