    Shuttertalk + Digit Online!

Well it has been ten months to they day when Shuttertalk was launched, and it has certainly been a great and fun-filled journey.  During this time, we have been bringing up to date digital photography news, camera reviews, informative articles and also the friendliest discussion forums to the general public.  I have not only gained many close and trusted friends through these forums, but have personally gathered a wealth of knowledge and experience through "hanging out" with my fellow Shuttertalkers.

We need to continue striving onwards to bigger and better things, which leads me to this announcement.  For the past month I have been in commercial negotiations with Dig!t Online, a German site for photo and digital imaging professionals based in Bonn Germany.  They also have a commercial publication called Dig!t, and hold a lot of the same values and goals as Shuttertalk, albeit for a different cultural audience.  As an official member of the TIPA (Technical Image Press Association - of the TIPA Awards fame) Dig!t Online have a huge financial backing and have offered to purchase Shuttertalk outright, including all content and intellectual property contained therein.

While I absolutely adore what this site has become, unfortunately, they have put forth an offer which I, at this point in time, cannot refuse.  So far, I've managed to keep word about the deal quiet, but I guess it's now time for the official announcement.

    http://www.shuttertalk.com/forums/images/upload/shutterdigit.gif

What does this mean for Shuttertalk?  As part of the contract, the agreement is to hand over the site and all content over to the Dig!t Online administrators, which they will then, over a period of one week, seamlessly assimilate into their site.  Unfortunately, being a German site, it will be difficult for me to continue playing a role in the running of the site - but rest assured that I will be there in spirit.

So to all our loyal Shuttertalkers and readers, Seien Sie vorsichtig and Bis bald!

    First and foremost:  CONGRATULATIONS.   cool

A couple of questions:   will there be an English-language version of the site?   And where goeth the forums?     If the english forums go away, are you allowed to set up a new site (and hopefully achieve a "repeat performance" at some point)?  Would hate to be cast adrift ...

Oh, your shutterdigit.gif gives me a red X.

    Congrats Julian...

I'm wondering if we need to create a master list of the core Shuttertalkers in case the worst happens and we lose our home....

While I have nothing but congratulations on your achievements Julian, I do feel some trepidation for what the affect will be for the community aspect.

    Still, Congratulations big_smile

It's TRUE everone.......I went for an afternoon rest and when I got up just before 5pm Rufus was running around yapping about the "bombshell" news from Shuttertalk. Even in my half awake state it only took me a minute to realise Australia's 10 hours ahead of us and that ST posted the news jst after midnight, Shuttertalk Time. Having conveyed this to th mad dog, he then abandonned making me coffee and raced upstairs to get in first with it!!  Rufus ...bad dog!!

    Re: Shuttertalk + Digit Online!

Hmmm ...  it starts to make sense.

We also need to ask our German speaking friends about the meaning of "Seien Sie vorsichtig" ...

I believe the German usage of that phrase translates more as "you'd better be careful" than "take care."

    Nein?

    Hahah, thanks everyone!

Looks like I was busted! big_smile  I posted two minutes after midnight my time, which is, as NN pointed out - 10 hours head of GMT. big_smile

You guys were too smart - I knew someone would figure it out.. big_smile

Whoops regarding the German - I found them on a phrase finder site. big_smile big_smile

Thanks again for the congratulations and well wishes... looks like I'll be sticking around for some time to come! big_smile

Well, you well and truly got me... but  California has a further 8 hour difference so now, 13 hours later,  it is still March 31st.

    Re: Shuttertalk + Digit Online!

    Well.

It's April 1st here now. Hah!  yikes

Anyway, here's the true story of NN spotting the hoax.............................

I read the article, yeah? Then I started fuming and pacing............. I bit Poppy and chewed a table-leg. NN, who was merrily playing GT4 elsewhere, scowled at me.

"Flippin' festerin' Australian oafs!" I barked.

NN asked what I was grunping about. I told her...............................

Calm as you like, GT4 wireless controller in hand, she said, "yeah, but it's the 1st of April down there.................................."

    WOMEN!!!!!

Cant live without 'em, cant shoot 'em!!!   :x
