10 megapixel camera..

A 10 megapixel point and shoot camera with 16mb built in memory :|

It uses interpolation to get 10 megapixels. What is interpolation in these camera terms? I know interpolation in graphs and things, but here, does it mean that you split the pixel, or insert pixels between the pixels..

Basically the camera "guesses" the neighbouring pixels and inserts them to create that higher megapixel count. the camera loses definition and detail though, interpolation can be done post processing and is used badly to sell customers (see digital zoom) :x
