B&H Leaked 3D Specs!
#1

Apparently B&H inadvertently leaked the new Canon 3D specs on a product page before taking it down - but luckily someone managed to grab a screenshot of it.

From the capture, you can see a pro-sized body, 46.1 MP sensor, Dual Digic 5+ processors and 3.2" LCD among other things.

So I guess this is their answer to Nikon's big megapixel game...

I have doubts about any rumour – I thought that the idea of the 36Mpx Nikon camera was absurd – so my track record it pretty bad. But even though a 5D3 price cut is inevitable, I have a really hard time thinking that Canon feels the need to have another camera that's even more expensive than what's already on the market.

But even if it's true and is announced tomorrow, it doesn't matter. It would solve a problem for Canon, but it wouldn't create a problem for Nikon.

46 megapixels versus 22 megapixels: "3D" v 5D3

46mpx = 7900 x 5930 pixels to a side.
22.3mpx = 5760 x 3840 pixels to a side.

37.15% increase in linear image size.

36 megapixels versus 22 megapixels: D800 v 5D3

36mpx = 7360 x 4912 pixels to a side.
22.3mpx = 5760 x 3840 pixels to a side.

27.78% increase in linear image size.

46 megapixels versus 36 megapixels, "3D" v D800:

46mpx = 7900 x 5930 pixels to a side.
36mpx = 7360 x 4912 pixels to a side.

7.34% increase in linear image size.

Good info and thanks for putting in into perspective.

I think it was crucial on Canon's part to offer the perception of keeping in the game. They were definitely blindsided by the Nikon Big MP offerings and this gives Canon users a bit of hope that they're not backing a losing horse.

I know 10 MP isn't much in reality, but 46 MP will give them bragging rights... until the 50 MP from Nikon comes out. Tongue
