Not wanting to be left behind, Canon told Reuters that they will be developing smaller DSLRs to compete with the likes of the Micro Four Thirds bunch. According to them, whether they have a mirror or not is not the issue - rather consumer need good quality cameras to become smaller.

If they can get DLSRs down to match the size of the MFT cameras, that would be most awesome indeed. Obviously one of the best advantages of a DSLR is the optical viewfinder - no LCD or EVF could hope to match that in terms of ease of operation.

Quote:Masaya Maeda didn't share any specific details, but here's how he dodged Reuters' inquiry: "It's not a question of whether or not you have a mirror. There is a consumer need for good-quality cameras to be made smaller. We will meet this need." And to add some icing to that bland statement, Maeda reinforced that it wouldn't be a challenge for his company to retain a mirror in a smaller design.
