I'm fascinated by these things... I understand how they tailor to page content - well, actually I thought I did till I noticed that the ads are tailored to the content of the posts themselves... (edit: just read the AdSense site - I get this bit now...)

What I don't get is how the ads (suddenly they're people!) know where I am... most of the links I get in the ads are for canadian businesses. So, IP or cookies...?

Yes I've noticed the same thing with Australian ads, I'd say it must be based on the IP address of the person, its rare to not get a response that has an Aussie link in it amazingly enough, normally we wouldn't warrant a response on the scale.

Yes your IP contains come location details and they show you ads from your location =)
