Finally I got one close, but this guy/gall seems to be a different one from the one I usually see at this spot. Looks like a younger bird and did not flee when I went down to the shore. Just kept fishing in the shallow water.
This is my best Heron shoot yet! :-D

Well shot. Clean and ful of detail especially like the eye in #3. Reminds me of something but don't know what yet. Gobstopper/aniseed/pool ball?

Great photos - I have tried to take photos of birds at the local duckpond, no luck, they are a lot quicker than I am
