My Venture ionto RAW
#1

Yesterday, I ventured into raw photography for the first time. I could see the photos in the camera LCD and modify them a little. I downloaded the latest version of Nikon View NX. But I couldn't do anything to take advantage of the greater lattitudes I was supposed ot have to edit the photos. I couldn't pull more out of the shadows or select my color balance because the software had no capabilit. Once i moved the photo to my editing software, they had to be converted to tiff or jpg anyway. How can you make use of raw photos? What software do I need? Can I get useful software without spending a fortune.

Nikon D3100 with Tokina 28-70mm f3.5, (I like to use a Vivitar .43x aux on the 28-70mm Tokina), Nikkor 10.5 mm fisheye, Quanteray 70-300mm f4.5, ProOptic 500 mm f6.3 mirror lens. http://donschaefferphoto.blogspot.com/

Hi, Don! Welcome to the world of RAW photography. I had the capability of using RAW, but only adopted it of all my photos about 14 months ago. I am currently using Photoshop Elements for most of my postprocessing. Kind of a junior version of the full blown Photoshop CSx (costing 7 times as much). Element's capabilities are mind blowing. It has a good RAW converter in which you can adjust colour balance and much more. It may be all that you'll ever need. There are also some freebee RAW converters on the Web. Regards.....Dennis
