Despite having been officially on sale for the past 7 months, apparently top tier camera retailers are still listing the Nikon D3s camera as a pre-order or coming soon. This upgrade to the D3 is priced at $5,199.95 US for the body only, and sports a 12.1 megapixel full frame sensor and ISO 102,400.

Quote:We spoke to J&R this past weekend about the tight inventory and we were told that they receive maybe "one or two" D3s bodies every couple of weeks, but not on a regular schedule; they just get them when they get them, and naturally, they're sold out by the time the boxes roll into the store. Folks browsing J&R's website don't even stand a chance.I wonder what the story is? Component shortages? A clever ploy by Nikon to have customers paying top dollar? Production issues?
