I have been noticing for a while, that the operation of this website seems slower than other websites I am visiting (no measurement - going with my impression). I just wonder if it is inherent in the design of the site or if it is an issue with a host or security filters used or what. This is not intended as a criticism. I would really like to know. Thanks Julian (or whoever else will take this on)

Just to be contrary, Pavel, I live in the same area and have the same ISP. I have not noticed any deterioration. Shuttertalk seems quite snappy.
Perhaps Rogers is getting back at you. LOL.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I notice it at times as well... although it's not consistent. We're on a shared hosting server, so potentially there are competing workloads from other sites that will occasionally contribute to the slowness.
If you could please keep any eye on it and let me know how the site performs especially during your respective time zones. If it becomes consistently bad, I can request that our site gets moved to a new shared server. Obviously this requires downtime etc. but if it needs to be done, I am more than happy to do it.
Thanks!

This morning from DPreview to Shuttertalk - 13 secs (6:15AM - UTC -5 (= Toronto time))
Seconds later DPReview=>Thom Hogan ~ 1 sec (hard to measure)
6:45 AM- 9 secs
7:49 8 secs
8:34 8 secs
10:48 23 secs
2:48 7 sec
I guess the best times are about 7 to 8 times slower than the other photo sites i use (DPReview times seem consistent and about the same as other main sites I visit). 7-8secs is tolerable but not good in my view. 13 sec and 23 sec gives you a sense that the site is down

DPreview to Shuttertalk 0.5 sec, just now. as a test.
Maybe al them super size macs and monitors are slowing the system down.
No, I get slow times occasionally in the late evening, but It occurs with other sites as well. I thought my router was playing up a bit.

NT - all other sites that I routinely visit take a second or less to load. I think I just get a consistently slow connect to Shttk

Julian, the response continues to be as slow/slower than before. I do not have any problem with any other website I visit. Did you have a look at the times I posted? A few moments it was 30+ secs. Is it possible that it is because of some antispam/antivirus software you run?

When I go to Shuttertalk, it takes not more than 10 sec - in peak hours not more than 20 sec . If it is taking you significantly longer than that, I would look locally for the solution.

Sorry to hear you're experiencing slowness - I'll request a server move on Monday and see if that fixes anything.

Pavel, are you going to http://www.shuttertalk.com/ or http://www.shuttertalk.com/forums/?
I notice that the main site often has to think for a few moments â maybe a couple of seconds â before loading, but going the forums continues to be fairly snappy.

Hey guys,
I've spent some time optimising databases, removing old / test sites on the account (which may have been targets for spam) etc.
The site is running pretty snappy for me at the moment - could everyone else please check how it performs for you?
Thanks,
Julian

Just tested it once, but there is a substantive improvement. I would lout during the day to see before I say it is truly improved.

Thank you Julian for taking the trouble of addressing the speed. It seems to work a lot better. Perhaps not snappy, as it works for you but much better and quite acceptable. Thank you again and have great holidays.

Seems to be working very well today. Took me all of 0.5 seconds to get on.

It's been a week and a bit since we've moved to the new site - just wondering how the site is performing? Has anyone experienced any slowness?
The new software uses caching heavily, and is generally more lean and optimised all round so hopefully things are running pretty snappy. Let me know if it's otherwise...

It is fine for me, but the other site was, in the main. The odd occasions when everything went slow happens with all sites at times. I just change objectives - er play 'quick fire pool' for an hour.

I'm the same as enviroguy, seems just fine to me. Try doing speedtests throughout the day and keep a log of your speeds. Do ping tests on various websites as well as just speed tests. If they're below what you'd expect, contact your ISP.
