Pentax sp500 shutter-mirror jammed?
#1

Gentlemen/Ladies:
I have a Pentax SP500 camera, the lense/mirror mechanism has jammed and the mirror does not return to the normal position. I notice the SP500 still has a very reasonable value and I "love" the camera. The other item I would like for this camera is a "automatic timer" (the type that screws into the exposure release, I have had no luck finding one so far. Is the camera worth taking into a repair place to have it looked at and possibly fixed and what would be the cost? any ideas> The Sp500 is like new, I purchased it new - - years- - - ago. Its taken in the neighbourhead of 2300 pictures. If you know of a firm that is into cameras, please advise and if possible their cost to look at it (and possible repair)
Thank you very much

A Quick google search shows this to be a pretty common problem. Seems lubricating the gears that move the mirror is a fix that is easy to attempt.

Take the battery out, give the pentaprism a sharp tap or two, then try a new battery. Ed.

To each his own!
