Hey folx,
I'm back for 10 days which includes the weekends of the 20-21st and 27-28th. Does anyone want to catch up and socialise or do something similar to Kings Park? Different location? Coffee? Family picnic? Maybe drag a wannabe model along and we can play with her?

The 20th is my wedding anniversary - so the 27th-28th would suit me better.
Family Picnic sounds good to me - maybe in Hyde Park (nice pictures to be had there too)?
Cheers,
Chris

I'm sure I'd be up for something
I don't think I've got anything planned for the weekend of the 27th/28th (except a night of Ice Skating with friends on the Friday night! - woohoo!)
As another option, what about the zoo? I've still never been to the Perth zoo, and I'm very tempted to go this weekend but will happily postpone it if you guys want to go on the 27th/28th. I know its cheating shooting animals in a zoo, but it would still be fun and we'd be pretty much guaranteed to get some good and entertaining shots out of it.

Hey the zoo sounds like a good idea. I talked to my other half last night and she isn't overly keen on Hyde Park. It can be fairly unsavoury there and I've encountered syringes there in the past although I have no problem going there to work festivals!
Late Saturday & Sunday afternoon I have shoots on but during the day should be fine and we can still make it family oriented.

Hyde Park is pretty, but yes, dangerous things happen there, so when I go there, I'm scared!
I'll be busy until after exams all these assignments piling up like usual and balance it with studying for exams... so, I'll join you all next time

Ok the zoo it is then, hopefully the weather stays nice a couple of weeks longer! I'll be back in a couple of days so I'll annoy my other half to sort out some details

Ok its Patch's fault that I got confused on the phone today about the date being the 28th but now the date is officially the 28th!
I think if we meet from midday onwards it should give us plenty of time to wander around and to socialise, the zoo closes at 5pm and unless its quite cloudy the best light and most animal activity will be later in the day. However having said that some of the animals require quite a hefty zoom to make the most of which requires more light for a faster shutter so it can be a bit of a compromise.
The website is pretty informative and may give anyone going an idea of whether they want to be a part of any animal feeding times etc. It is at Perth Zoo Webite
The cafe area would be a good meeting point and if anyone needs to get a hold of me they can call me on 0414 345 260 on the day.

Yup.. I'm in
And I'll hopefully be bringing along a mate (and possibly his wife and kids). He's a D50 owner, but we won't hold that against him (right Jules? )
The zoo even has a photography exhibition on display at the moment ( http://www.perthzoo.wa.gov.au/events_current.html#buzz)... Don't forget those macro lenses kids!
Jamie, do you need a camera? I can bring my Polaroid Miniportrait camera for you to use if you like? With a fixed focus distance of 2m, I can just see you trying to take a passport photo of a tiger! Ok, maybe I can bring my spare 350D instead, and as far as telephoto lenses go we can fight over the 70-200f/4L and 135f/2L with 1.4xTC.

Do you think the government would do a passport for a tiger? How would they sign their name with those big paws...
I do have a spare bag which my other half has been using when I'm not around but the camera is reporting "error 6" and then switching off straight away. I still have a 50mm 1.8 and 70-200 & 2x converter though so not all is lost.
Looking forward to meeting the traitor, sorry, I mean.. Nikon user.

Glad they didn't swipe all your gear.
Rats about the error 6 though
I'm not even sure what an Error 6 means, but it would be worth running through the following checklist of things that will often get rid of an Error 99.
cbclements from dpreview Wrote:1. Carefully clean the 8 gold color lens contact pins on the camera body
lens mount with a pencil eraser. Do this while holding the camera so that
any eraser dust will not fall into the camera.
2. Take out both batteries. Yes, there are 2. I had forgotten about the
smaller Date/Time battery. Also remove the CF memory card.
3. With the batteries removed, turn the camera switch on for 3-5 minutes.
He (the Canon Tech) said that this clears the memory.
4. Turn the camera off and put the batteries and CF card back in.
5. Re-attach the lens and turn it back on.

You know strangely enough I almost considered changing over to Nikon because of the D2X and the 200mm f2 lens Nikon makes. Thats how close it was!
Adrian,
Funnily enough that is what the tech told me to do when I rang them and then he told me to bring it in because he didn't know what error 6 was. Hows that for crap support?

I will bring both my camera bodies (5D and 20D) on Sunday - so should be plenty of cameras for all to use.
It will be pretty cool being able to experiment with each other's lenses
That is really ordinary support Jamie.

Cool beans, I won't worry about being a "no body" then!
I had the 10d in for service and cleaning, they had it for 5 weeks and still charged me $300.00 for it.
