FastStone Image Viewer, despite its name, is actually a well-featured and free image editor. One of the tools is an effective clone brush.

If you're in a hurry or not on your computer, I recommend Pixlr: http://pixlr.com/ It's made by Autodesk, and it's surprisingly easy and fun to use.

Watch out for phoney GIMP downloads that add unwanted software to your computer. To avoid rubbish go to: http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ go to the fourth line down and click the FTP link for a clean download.
Many people think that GIMP is difficult to learn, far from it. The best up-to-date tutorials I found are at: http://www.gimp2tutorials.info/downloads.htm The tutorials are in Pdf format so you can print out just the information you need. Everything is explained in a simple steps 1,2,3 etc. You'll be flying with GIMP in no time. BTW, everything is free. That's right you don't even have to give your email address.

Go to the same page through the link and click 'Download GIMP 2.8.10' which is highlighted in yellow. I tried the FTP link and you are right, it has stopped working. Sorry about that.
