Hi,

I have a Sony a500 and want to take wide angle photos and need advice on a lense that gives me a wider range than the current 16mm lense currently on the camera and ideally within a budget of up to £400 without using an adaptor.

16mm is about 24mm on a conventional camera, even 21mm could cause problems, thereafter, it's Fisheye, which to me are pointless. Ed.

If anyone simply wants a wider field of view of a static subject, such as a landscape or a building, a good quality result can be obtained at no extra cost. Just using one of your existing lenses, take a few over-lapping shots, which can be hand-held, and stitch them together in free software:

Even the full-size images shown here have been resampled down to only a small fraction of the stitched products from Microsoft ICE, to make them a size that will be accepted by the forum software. The files from ICE can be very large - e.g. the manor house image was 50 megapixels and a 16 megabyte JPEG file! It's effectively like having a much bigger sensor in the camera, so the resolution can be quite amazing.

Does the a5000 have a panorama mode like the a6000 has. The camera would do the stitching, if the a5000 has the panorama mode.
