That is mainly the sea behind the bird.
Ask yourself, "What's most important for the final image?".
#52
Excellent! Must go through all those again!
#53
John, ta, try pulling the sea out a bit, there is a good pic here, to me. Cheers. Ed.

PS When is the flying lesson.
To each his own!
#54
The depth of field puts the sea completely out of focus.
Flying lesson was today, but cancelled due to weather conditions. Now rescheduled for a fortnight tomorrow.
Ask yourself, "What's most important for the final image?".

They mess everywhere, they squawk raucously and continuously and they are a complete nuisance. One of the drawbacks in living in a high flat, close to the shore. The gulls think they are cliffs! So here is my image of a "flying rat".

Hi John,

I especially like the thin patch of sunlight on the forehead and the larger patch of sunlight on the chest. Nice shot!

The Black-crowned Night Heron is one of my favorite birds to photograph. The transformation from juvenile to adult form is truly amazing. It's still hard for me to believe they're the same bird! Here's an example:

1. juvenile form (gorgeous orange iris and primarily yellow bill)
[Image: latestlibraryphotos2013%20%281%29%20%281%29-L.jpg]
2. intermediate form (transformation of plumage and subtle hint of orange in the iris as it begins to go red)
3. adult form (transformation of plumage complete, stunning red iris and primarily black bill)
Nature continues to astound!
